Business
The Penne river and proximity to Bay of Bengal makes Nellore most
suitable for cultivation of crops. Jowar, bajra, paddy, chilies, groundnuts,
sugarcane and tobacco are cultivated in Nellore. Many agro based industries
like rice bran oil, rice mills and sugar factories have set up base here due to
easy availability of raw materials. Fisheries are also an important sector
here. Mica mines and thermal power
plant, handlooms and handmade gold jewelry are also a major source of
livelihood here.
